How to Have a Less Stressful New Years Eve Bash

December 24, 2007

When planning for any event there’s always going to be a certain amount of stress and a New Years Eve party is no exception. However there are some ways you can reduce the stress, so I’m going to share some tips with you to help you do that.

The food you’re going to serve at your New Years Eve party is going to be one of your primary concerns, and can be a lot of work if you plan on preparing the food yourself. If your budget will allow it, hire a catering service, as this will lessen your stress level considerably. To use a catering service you will need to spend a little time choosing the right one. First ask your friends or co-workers for recommendations, and if that doesn’t produce any results you can always turn to the yellow pages. Whoever you select you’ll want to sample some of their cooking and once you’ve made your choice you’ll need to go over the menu and delivery schedule with them. Now that you have the food situation handled you’ll be free to turn your focus to other things and you won’t have to worry about the food on the night of the party so you can enjoy yourself more.

Have a Vegetarian New Years Eve Party

December 24, 2007

If you have plans to host a New Years Eve party you may want to think about making it a vegetarian New Years Eve party.

One reason why some party host may choose to serve vegetarian food is because they are a vegetarian themselves and may have some new dishes they want to try out on their friends. However if you don’t have a lot of vegetarian friends you may want to consider having some non-vegetarian dishes as well.

Some people choose to go the vegetarian route because it can also reduce the food expenses This can especially true if the crowd is expected to be pretty big. You may be surprised to know that many vegetarian dishes can be quite delicious if they are prepared the right way. The bottom line is people want to eat food that taste good, whether it’s a meat dish or a vegetarian dish.

Getting a Live Band for Your New Years Eve Party

December 24, 2007

Having a live band at your New Years Eve party is an excellent choice for entertainment, as they will help keep the guests entertained throughout the evening. There are some things you will need to do in order to find a live band for your party.

If the band is really popular you may have difficulty booking them for your party unless they are booked well in advance as they are likely to booked up for possibly a year or more. Now if you know some local bands that are good or bands that are just getting started but are good, then you probably won’t need to book so far in advance. However it would still be best to book them at least 2-3 months in advance just to be sure you can get them.

The other thing you’ll need to consider is your budget, while getting a really popular band may be great, they are likely to be quite expensive so you may have to go with a less expensive band.

Have a New Years Eve Party With The Kids

December 24, 2007

Most of us tend to think of a New Years Eve Party as only for adults but some people take their kids with them to a New Years Eve party as well. There are also some New Years Eve parties planned just for the kid also. Regardless of whether it will be an all kids New Years Eve Party or one where the kids come with parents there are some considerations that should be taken into account when planning your party.

The first thing that comes to mind would be the alcohol consumption because of course you don’t want the kids drinking alcohol, so you need to plan your beverages accordingly. While having some soda or juices for the kids you could also make them feel more a part of the party by serving them mock-cocktails. These drinks will look just like the real thing yet won’t contain any alcohol. You’ll also want to have special festive cups just for the kids so they don’t accidentally pick up a real drink instead. You also may want to place a drink limitation on the adults so they don’t get too drunk while at the party.

A Themed New Years Eve Party Can Be Fun

December 24, 2007

Choosing to go with a theme for your New Years Eve party can be a lot of fun but just be aware that it will also require more work getting things coordinated to be sure everything flows together like it should.

You will need to incorporate the theme of the party into everything such as invitations, food, drinks decorations, entertainment, music, and party attire. You’ll want to give guests the option of dressing appropriately for the theme and perhaps acting like a certain character, or dress the way they want to and just enjoy all the party as to offer their own way.

The Christmas Tree

December 24, 2007

The Christmas tree is one of the most recognizable icons of the holiday season. Buyers of these most sought after decorations basically have one question to consider: Should I buy a real evergreen or an artificial Christmas tree. Hopefully, a little thought and some browsing around on the Internet will help you make a decision.

The first consideration you want to make is you own personal tastes. If you are a stickler for tradition then you will most likely be drawn to the traditional live Christmas tree. There are many beautiful varieties available during the holiday season and you can even order a real evergreen tree online.

The live evergreen holiday decoration is ideal for the traditionalist and it is also a great item to consider if you are short on storage space. If you have a cramped attic and you basement is overflowing with stuff, then a real Christmas tree is a great choice. You don’t have to worry about stocking it away after the season.

Christmas Lights

December 22, 2007

Christmas has been over for a few weeks now and I’m still driving around my town and seeing Christmas lights being displayed. I don’t mind the pretty little white lights that I actually think could be appropriate for the winter season. I do mind the little colored blinking lights that should have been taken by now. I have been told, more than once, that Christmas lights can stay up for the entire month of January, not just December. Okay, if that is the case – I’m thinking that by February 1st, they should all be packed away in tangled balls for next December. Even worst than seeing Christmas lights this many weeks after the holiday has passed, is seeing the giant Santas and reindeer in people’s yards. One of my neighbors enjoys littering their entire yard and rooftop with tons of decorations for the season. I personally couldn’t be paid enough money to put any of it on my property, but to each their own. This yard still displays a Santa, a reindeer, candy canes, North Pole signs and tons of other things that aren’t just for winter, they are all about Christmas. The most humorous part though is that they still have the giant sleigh on top of their roof lit up every single night. I can’t even imagine what their phone bill is right now. I am tempted to take all of it down and put it on their front porch.

Santa’s Helper Gift Exchange

December 17, 2007

How about a slightly different version of ’secret santa’? This one is called ‘Santa’s helper’. For this one someone within the workplace group will start the exchange by secretly providing a gift for someone with a card attached that says something like ‘Santa’s little helper stopped by to wish you a Merry Christmas’. Then that person will do the same thing for someone else until everyone in the office has secretly received a gift. These don’t have to be expensive gifts and can be homemade as well.

Christmas Tree Trimming at the Office

December 17, 2007

If possible maybe you could have a Christmas Tree Trimming gathering! You could have everyone bring 5-6 decorations and everyone gets to hang their ornaments on the tree. It not only brightens up the office but it makes for a fun time for everyone and helps to put them in the Christmas spirit.

With Christmas being the time of year that signifies giving, how about arranging a group activity that would help others? The place where I once worked used to have a tree with tags attached and each tag would have a gift request from someone less fortunate. You would choose a tag and that would be the gift that you would purchase for some needy person. You would then bring the gift to work and the person in charge of the project would take the gifts to be delivered. Often these gifts would be going to a homeless shelter or perhaps an orphanage where lots of little children needed presents.

Christmas Cookie Exchange Party

December 16, 2007

One favorite would be to have a ‘cookie exchange party’. This party could be held during lunchtime on the scheduled day. Have everyone bring several dozen homemade cookies. Be sure to set a specific number of cookies for everyone to make. Once all the cookie plates are set out, give everyone an empty plate and let them choose the cookies they want and put them on their plate.

Christmas Fun-time at the Office

December 15, 2007

We all know that being in an office can get boring, but if you’re lucky enough to have an employer who doesn’t mind you having a little holiday fun, then liven the office up with some Christmas time fun!

Of course the most common thing to do is, to have an office Christmas Party.
But how about having more than one party during the holiday season, does that sound like even more fun? : )

Game Board Christmas Games

December 14, 2007

Children always enjoy board games so how about letting them create their own! Do to this have everyone make a piece for an ‘unknown’ game board’. You set guidelines for the pieces such as size of about 2″ and must be Christmas related.

The game board can be a large piece of cardboard or even a large rug. You can make the theme of the game just about anything you want, but it should be Christmas related in keeping with the season. This is especially true if you want to combine the board game with the gift exchange by making the game pieces be the gifts they exchange before they start playing the game.

Christmas Classroom Gift Exchange Games

December 13, 2007

These days a lot of schools don’t do gift exchanges for the Christmas season, but there are still some that do. Adding some fun games to the gift exchange can make it more interesting and festive for them. With a children’s gift exchange it’s best to set the spending limit for the gifts at $5. But it isn’t the cost of the gift that makes it fun, it’s the activities surrounding the gift exchange.

One gift exchange method is the most common one which is called the “white elephant’. There are various ways to do it, but for this one we’ll use the numbers drawing. Write down enough numbers to cover the number of gifts added to the pile. Then each child will draw a number and get to pick a gift from the pile or they can ’steal’ one that someone else already has. However a gift is only allowed to be stolen 3 times. Children always seem to get a kick out of ’stealing’ someone else’s gift; )

Gift Exchange Games for the Family

December 12, 2007

At one time a family gift exchange meant everyone bought gifts for everyone else and they all exchanged gifts with one another when the family got together. However many families find it gets quite costly to try and buy for everyone as the family continues to grow, so these days more and more people will have a drawing where everyone picks someone’s name and they buy a gift for that person. While this method is practical it’s not quite as much fun so we need to find ways to make the gift exchanging more entertaining.

Hunt For The Gift
One of the ways you can do make gift exchanges more fun is to hide the gift and then give the recipient clues on how to find the gift. You can design these clues to be rather silly or serious. You may want to make it easy for them to find the gift quickly or you may want to draw it out more by making it a bit more difficult to find. The method you choose may depend on whom the gift is for as that can make a difference.

December 7, 2007

The holiday season is always a busy time for everyone with all the shopping, baking, parties, gift wrapping, Christmas plays etc, that it can be hard to find time to spend with friends. One way to spend time with friends and tackle the task of getting your tree decorated as well, is to have a ‘tree trimming party’.

It’s usually best to have these tree trimming parties in the evenings or late afternoons if possible. When sending out the invitations be sure to tell your guest what you will be serving so they can plan what they may want to eat before they come.

Christmas Music

December 6, 2007

Memory is closely tied to songs. For many people, some of the most powerful and inspirational feelings come from warm memory of the holiday season. Christmas music is a valuable part of this well-loved time of year. The holiday songs are endearing and they evoke many emotions and fond memories.

Make sure that you keep the tradition of sharing Christmas music during your holiday celebrations. This seems to be a dying practice among many families. Last year, we visited my sister-in-law’s home for the holidays. She had all of the elements of a great celebration but no Christmas music.

Fun Christmas Games for ages 5-11

December 6, 2007

If you need to entertain a group of young children in the elementary school age group, you can find a wide variety of fun games for them to play.

Fill the Stocking
One game you can play is called ‘fill the stocking’. You’ll want to create teams that consist of at least 3-6 kids. Each team will have a stocking hung on a wall. Next you’ll need a bowl of candy plus some spoons. The object of the game is for the kids to place the spoon in their mouth (handle first) and then scoop up some candy from the candy bowl. They must keep the spoon in their mouth then run or walk to the stocking hanging on the wall and put the candy in it. They then go to the back of the line and next child up does the same thing. You’ll want to have enough spoons for each child to have their own. The game ends when the bowl of candy is empty. The team who gets the most candy in their stocking wins a big bag of candy.
